Bus Driver (24 Passenger Bus)

Part-time – 0.20 – 0.50 FTE

The Bridge Educational Society is seeking a responsible, experienced bus driver.  The BES Bus Driver is responsible for safely transporting passengers on a 24-passenger bus to and from the Early Years Center programs, ensuring their comfort and safety throughout the journey.  Shifts may include time working within the school age care programs, supervising and supporting students before or after their bus ride.

Accountable to: Transportation Manager

Primary Responsibilities

• Operate a 24-passenger bus, following all local, provincial, and federal transportation regulations.
• Transport passengers to and from designated locations in a timely and safe manner.
• Assist passengers with boarding and disembarking the vehicle.
• Maintain a clean and organized bus interior, including regular cleaning and upkeep.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure the bus is in good working condition.
• Communicate effectively with passengers, providing information and assistance as needed.
• Handle any emergencies or incidents according to BES protocols and safety procedures.
• Adhere to schedules and routes, adjusting as necessary to accommodate changes or delays.
• Communicate effectively with EYC childcare and administration staff.
• Support transfer of care to childcare staff and work in school-age care programs as needed.
• Complete accurate daily logs, including mileage, passenger counts, and any incidents that occur.

Qualifications

• Valid Class 4 or Class 2 driver’s license.
• Clean driving record with no serious violations.
• Responsible Adult certification.
• Previous experience as a bus driver or in a similar role is highly desirable.
• Strong knowledge of traffic laws, and road safety regulations in British Columbia.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and handle unexpected situations calmly and efficiently.
• Physical ability to assist passengers as required.
